Description
Solar MD SS7008-05 – HV 80.0kWh (5x 16.0kWh)
The SS70xx High Voltage Range is a modular, rack-type lithium-ion (LiFePO₄) energy storage system designed primarily for commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications.
It uses high-voltage architecture (hundreds of volts) to integrate with large inverters/PCS systems, and is scalable from tens to hundreds of kilowatt-hours, making it suitable for backup power, peak shaving, self-consumption, off-grid / hybrid systems.
The system is built using the SS6160 (or earlier SS6143) battery modules in a rack with a Battery Management Unit (BMU) and full monitoring/communications interface.
🔧 Key Features
- Capacity range / scalability: The SS70xx range offers capacities from about 80 kWh up to ~272 kWh per rack, depending on the model (e.g., SS7008-05 ~80 kWh; SS7027-05 ~272 kWh) when configured with the appropriate number of modules.
- Voltage range / nominal voltage: Depending on the model the nominal voltage spans from ~256 V up to ~870.4 V for the larger systems. Operational (min-max) voltages vary accordingly with module count.
- Modular design: The system is built from individual modules (SS6160) which are field‐replaceable. Racks support from 5 to 17 modules (or more) and can be connected in parallel to meet larger energy needs.
- Battery chemistry: Uses LiFePO₄ cells, specifically high‐quality prismatic cells (e.g., from CATL) for high safety, long cycle life, and stable performance.
- Cycle life / durability: The datasheet indicates very high cycle life—≥ 7,000 cycles under certain conditions.
- Efficiency: Charging/discharging efficiency is high—for example ~99% for module/rack as indicated in datasheet.
- Advanced monitoring & management: Includes a Battery Management System (BMS) at module level + a Battery Management Unit (BMU) for the rack. Communications include CAN Bus, RS485, Ethernet. There is also an advanced monitoring platform (e.g., Logger V2, mypower24).
- Applications: Suitable for: backup power, commercial UPS, peak shaving (reducing grid peaks), off-grid / hybrid systems, integration with PV and battery inverters, large scale ESS.
- Safety & environment / rugged build: It is engineered for harsh environments; options include outdoor cabinet versions with IP65 rating, integrated cooling, fire protection, etc.
📝 Key specifications / typical values
Here are some representative values (note: depends on model version):
- Example: 80 kWh model: nominal voltage ~256 V, operational ~236-278 V
- Larger models: e.g., 170 kW / 170 kWh model – nominal voltage ~870.4 V
- Modules: SS6160 module: 16 kWh per module; nominal voltage ~51.2 V in the module
- Rack weights and dimensions vary based on module count; e.g., 629.2 kg for 80 kWh version, dimensions ~424 mm x 712 mm x 1976 mm.
ℹ️ Considerations
- Ensure your inverter/PCS and system architecture support the high‐voltage range (hundreds of volts) and that the nominal/operational voltage is compatible.
- As the system is modular and scalable, you’ll need to plan for space, cooling/ventilation (especially for outdoor cabinets) and safety (fire protection, IP rating) if deployed in harsh or outdoor environments.
- Check local service, warranty terms, installation partner certification, and compatibility with local grid codes/regulations.
- Because these are large‐scale systems, sizing must align with your energy usage, demand peaks, discharge rates (kW), and expected cycle life.
